WELCOME TO THIS SECRET PROJECT PAGE!
REZilience: the movie
You are here because you're an artist and a friend and/or collaborator of mine. You know that I have been developing my zombie project, REZilience, for years and it's not an accident that a film about zombies is a project that just won't die! I have the script. I have the short film as a test. I have a lot of people who support the project and want to be involved. I have Canada-wide media coverage. Why haven't I made the feature film yet? What's been holding me back?
Money. It's always money. To make the film right, it will cost over $350.000 and I just do not have that pocket change. Unfortunately, from what I understand, government funding programs don't like zombie films, or horror films in general but I think that, once funders and investors see the concept in action and realize how powerful the story is, they'll come around and open their wallets.
If I had investors or a winning lottery ticket, the movie would be slated to be filmed this summer.

REZilience: the graphic novel
I need a way to keep this project alive until it is funded, to celebrate the story in new mediums, and to create something tangible that film funders can visually see that tells the story in a dynamic way. MY THOUGHT is to create a graphic novelization of REZilience, a fully illustrated novel or series of novels that follow the script.
That is where you come in. You're an artist.
I will provide the film script to 12 visual artists. Some will have had lots of exeperience with panel-based comic book creation. Others will have never strayed off canvases. Each artist will be given a SECTION of script to visualize. They come up with their own design for the characters, the setting, and the zombies themselves. They will be given minimal direction and will not collaborate together so that each section will truly be THEIR vision of the story BUT they will have me as a resource and if they need the support of Indigenous elders, artists and educators for authenticity and realism, that can be arranged. The end result will be a showcase of artistic talent collaboratively telling the same story through a dozen pairs of eyes.
In other words, WE ARE CROWDSOURCING CANADA'S FIRST INDIGENOUS GRAPHIC NOVEL ABOUT ZOMBIES!

YOUR RULES
We will agree on a page size.
We will all use the same script and be true to it as the source material.
We will honour the people whose stories we are telling, even if they and their situation is imaginary.
We will commit to a 10 month timeframe to create a ready-to-publish draft (publishing is PHASE TWO of the project).
We will commit to weekly updates including photos of work completed.

FUNDING
You are a working artist who does this for a living, or you're an emerging or moonlighting creator but like to be paid too.
We have applied for $15,000 ONTARIO ARTS COUNCIL FUNDING for the project, which we will divide evenly amongst the artists.
This funding will be to pay for your time and final product. We will then use the compiled draft book to either self-publish or find a publisher interested in it.
