WHAT IS THE FILM ABOUT? The Philanthropistis the story of three women (Chretien, Stevenson, and Buratynski) who find themselves down on their luck and needing the help of a mysterious stranger (Whyte). Each with their own tale of woe, they will appeal to his generosity. Some will be rewarded. Some will be punished.
WHERE WAS IT FILMED? Most of the film was shot on location in an aged Victorian home in Gore Bay, Ontario while the outside shots were done behind OK Tire in Espanola, Ontario.
DID IT COME TO THE SCREENWRITER/DIRECTOR AS A DREAM? Yes it did. Jayson Stewart woke up with the story fully formed. He went to work, told a coworker and then promptly forgot about it (as is common with dreams). A week later he rememebered that he had had a dream and that he had thought it would be great as a film. He went back to his colleague and, sure enough, she had remembered the entire story and told it back to him. Within weeks the script was written, casting was done and filming began!
